BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the real challenge to the current international order and system is that the United States, the strongest country in the world, places its own interests above everything else, and takes this as its code of conduct.
"The fact is as plain as day that there is no evidence supporting the claim that the novel coronavirus came from a lab," Zhao said.
Zhao said the Communist Party of China puts people and life front and center, and the Chinese government's epidemic response can stand the test of time and history. "It stands in sharp contrast with U.S. political parties who put political gains first."
"Hopefully, our American friends could have a really better understanding of the realities in our region, could really understand our concern, our perception, and what we need, what the people in the region really need, and could refrain from taking any action to take advantage of any disputes in the region or even escalate the situation," he said.
It needs to be stressed again that the Chinese government is determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, implement the "one country, two systems" principle, and oppose external interference in Hong Kong affairs.
He made the remarks after visiting U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed at a joint press briefing here that the United States, a country with a poor track record of respecting other nations' sovereignty, stood "prepared to support" the Czech people if the latter were bullied by others.
"China-U.S. cooperation has never been a case of one party giving favor to the other, or one party taking advantage of the other. Both countries have benefited much from this cooperation," he stressed
"China's door to dialogue remains open. We are willing, in the spirit of equality and open-mindedness, to talk and interact with the United States, and resume dialogue mechanisms at all levels and in all fields," said Wang. ■
Yang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, said that a sound and stable China-U.S. relationship affects the well-being of China, the United States and the world at large.
The two major countries in the world, which share extensive common interests, stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation, they said.
China's U.S. policy is always consistent and stable, and in the meantime, China is also prepared for possible bumps and storms ahead, Wang said during an exclusive interview with Xinhua.
