Spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks at a press briefing in response to the NBC's interviews with directors of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) and Wuhan Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. U.S. State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus alleged that NBC's interviews did not press for facts.
Cui made the remark when he attended the 2020 Aspen Security Forum on Aug. 4 and had an online interview with Nicholas Burns, executive director of the Aspen Strategy Group, and Andrea Mitchell, chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News, on issues related to China-U.S. relations.

A total of 59 major projects, including 12 foreign-funded and 47 domestic ones, were agreed, covering tourism, the modern service industry and high-tech industries, with an estimated total investment of 14.2 billion yuan (about 2 billion U.S. dollars).

"All issues can be put on the table for discussion," Wang said.
To uphold world peace and promote development for all is the shared mission and responsibility for China and the United States, Yang said. "What it requires is for the two countries to view and handle their relationship in a proper manner and seek a way of peaceful co-existence despite differences."
China and the United States are two major countries with different social systems, histories and cultures, and each has its own interests and concerns, which is natural, he noted.
