BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Citing so-called national security concerns, Washington announced Thursday an upcoming ban on dealings with the Chinese owners of popular apps TikTok and WeChat, while on the same day, it reimposed a 10-percent tariff on Canadian aluminum exports into the United States.
Wang said that China-U.S. relations are facing the gravest challenge since the establishment of diplomatic ties, and their exchanges and cooperation in many areas are being seriously disrupted.
"It has gone extreme to pursue unilateralism and bullying, even at the cost of international responsibilities and multilateral rules," Wang told Xinhua in an exclusive interview.
"If you talk about anything universal, you have to consider China itself has 20 percent of the global population. If you count in countries like India, African and Latin American countries, the majority of the global population is very often not included in the so-called universality (that is often referred to in this country)," he said. In the interview, Wang refuted a series of recent U.S. moves hurting bilateral ties, including U.S. closing the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, launching global campaign against Chinese companies, making fierce attacks on the Communist Party of China and interfering into China's internal affairs.
"This will go a long way to assist us in the fight against the pandemic in the region. We would always want to have this cooperation with the people of China at all levels," Ashitey said.
The repeated use of national security by the United States to cover its "modern piracy" not only diminishes its credibility in the eyes of other countries, including its allies, but also hampers its own interests.
The robust economic and trade relationship has supported around 2.6 million jobs in the United States across a range of industries, and over 72,500 U.S. companies have investments or business in China.
He said the Chinese side rejects any attempt to create a so-called "new Cold War", because it contravenes the fundamental interests of the Chinese and American peoples and the global trend toward development and progress.
"Every year, we organize a lot of cultural activities that do help peoples enjoy better understanding and further promote the friendship." Enditem
"We urge the United States to stop acting with arrogance and prejudice, but enter into constructive dialogue with us on an equal footing," Wang said.
